Building Update

Congregation President LaMoine Parkhurst offers the following report on the progress toward acquiring the former VictoryBaptist Church, which the congregation decided to buy at a special congregational meeting August 29th.

The building purchase is continuing and is on schedule. On Wednesday Chuck Olson met the appraiser and walked through the church so he could establish a fair market value. He will prepare his report and send it to the lending institution to make sure it satisfies the terms of the mortgage agreement.

It is our hope that this report will be available for discussion at the council meeting on Monday, September 20th. When this step in the process has been completed, it would be our plan to get into the building and continue the deep cleaning process. This process was started last week by the hard work of Chuck and Kim. Their efforts have already made a big difference in the appearance of the building and made it more presentable for the appraiser.

Thank you Chuck and Kim!

Committee Reports

La Moine also says it is essential that all committees meet to select a chairperson and prepare a job description. This should include a mission statement and a mission plan for the committee. The chair of the committee should not be the council liaison. As soon as these committee reports are completed, they will be printed and become another step in the organizational process required in the By-Laws of our church.

Call Committee Update

The call committee continues to evaluate applications for potential pastors.  Please have the applicants, the committee and our congregation in your prayers.

This Week’s Service & Fellowship

Pastor Craig Nelson from Minong preaches a sermon called “Why Worship” as we gather Sunday for 5 p.m. worship at the Lutheran Church of St. Matthew.  Pre-worship prayer will be in the north wing of the sanctuary 4:45-4:55 p.m.  The choir, under direction of Bob LaMont, will provide an anthem.

Our fellowship meal for September 19th is pot luck.  Please remember to bring a dish to pass!

Thanks to Rev. Greg Lenz of Chanhassen for leading last week’s worship, who reminded us in his sermon that “the law is not given to show how to be saved, but how much we need to be saved.”

Calling All Musicians

The worship committee encourages anyone interested in performing during the offeratory in a week the choir is not singing to contact Chuck Olson.  The committee is looking for soloists or small groups who could like to sing those Sundays.  You will need to provide your own music and accompanist, although our frequent worship pianist Kayla Shoemaker would be willing to work with you as long as there is adequate lead time.
