Five New Members Welcomed Sunday

Faith Lutheran Mission Church adds five new members Sunday at its 9 a.m. service.  Toni Cavanaugh, Kristine Seanor-Behling, Kayla Shoemaker, Patrick Shoemaker and Jacob Shoemaker will be welcomed into the congregation as part of the service on Sunday, September 18th.  Please come and share this joyful day!

Special Congregational Meeting Set Sunday

A recommendation to call a pastor from the call committee is up for consideration at a congregational meeting Sunday, September 18th.  The meeting was announced in a notice provided by Congregation President LaMoine Parkhurst August 29:

From: LaMoine W. Parkhurst, Council President

To: Members of Faith Lutheran Mission Church

Subject: Congregational Meeting, Sunday, September 18, 2011, following the worship service at approximately at 10:45 a.m. for the purpose of issuing a letter of call.

Following the last two congregational interviews of potential pastors, it is now time to make a decision. Please pray that the decision is according to God’s will and the acceptance of the call is in His hands.

It is essential that we have as many members as possible present at the meeting to confirm this call.

Thank you in advance.

Holy Spirit to be Theme of Wednesday Services

“God Speaks through the Holy Spirit” is the theme for the midweek services, which have resumed at Faith Lutheran Mission Church at 7 p.m. Wednesday nights.  The devotional messages revolve around Jesus’ words in John 14:26:  “The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you.”

These member-led services involve a simplified liturgy, with a brief message, devotional, study or testimony.  If you discern that you are led to share a message, talk to Bob Moore.

Cleanliness is Next to ….

As the weather cools, we often take the signal to clean our garages and basements.  Faith Lutheran Mission Church in is “cleaning” mode, too.

Workers are needed at the church for a cleanup day Saturday, September 17 at 10 a.m., with the focus being the shed and the back room in the basement.  By the way, we rely on volunteers to keep the church clean.  Sign up for a shift on the sheet next to the coffee maker.

One more “clean-up” note:  Our “Adopt-a-Highway” road, County II south of Eau Claire, is due for its last pickup of the year.  Plan to join us 10 a.m. September 24 for our last ditch adventure of 2011 – we’ll meet at the Corner Store on 93 and II.

Hannah’s Hands Distributes Personal Care Kits

Small gestures sometime mean a lot.  That’s the prayer of the Hannah’s Hands Bible study group, which collected items for personal care kits for the past several weeks.  Thirty-five of those kids have been put together, and will be sent this fall to Lutheran World Relief.  A source at LWR says, "When we distribute these kits, it's often to people who have lost everything. In the wake of an earthquake, or having fled from violence as their homes were overtaken, they clasp a towel from a faraway place, with a bar of soap, a toothbrush...and washing up, they know that they have not been forsaken by the world. The very simple gesture of giving a Personal Care Kit can give someone the encouragement to start anew, starting with a bath."

Hannah’s Hands is a women’s Bible study group that meets at the church the first Monday evening of the month.

News and Notes:

·         The LCMC Annual Gathering is being held in Des Moines, Iowa October 2 – 5. Lamoine & Jan Parkhurst and Bob & Elaine Moore will be attending, with LaMoine and Elaine serving as the official delegates representing FLMC. Pray for their guidance.  By the way, one of the keynoters at the gathering will be T.J Anderson of Stillwater, the inspirational speaker who led the very first service ever held by our congregation in January of 2010.

·         Gift of Grace Lutheran Church of Onalaska, led by Pastor Tim Duesenberg who has preached at Faith Lutheran Mission Church, holds a vote Sunday in which they will decide whether or not to join the North American Lutheran Church (NALC), in addition to the Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC) affiliation they already hold.  Please pray for guidance as they make that decision.

·         Four members of Faith Lutheran Mission Church have volunteered to take communion to members or friends of the congregation who desire to receive the Lord’s Supper, but are unable to attend Sunday worship due to health problems.  If you or someone you know requires this service, please contact Bob Moore, LaMoine Parkhurst, Joanne Flaten or Marylin Howard.

·         September mission recipients are APPLE Pregnancy Care Center in Eau Claire, and the Institute for Lutheran Theology.  Each will get 10% of the weekly offering for the month.

·         While Faith Lutheran Mission Church has sent thousands of dollars to other congregations in need, we recently were on the receiving end of such a gift.  Morningside Lutheran Church of Sioux City, Iowa made a gift to FLMC from their Benevolence and Mission Committee of $2,000!

·         Next choir rehearsal will be at 7 p.m. Thursday night, September 22nd at the church.  The choir will sing September 25 at the 9 a.m. service.  If you’d like to sing, come join in the fun!

·         FLMC is getting plugged in!  Cable internet and telephone hookups are expected to be installed Friday, September 16th.

·         The website for Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ was recently upgraded.  Many good resources are available there.  You can find it at www.lcmc.net.  The most recent LCMC newsletter can be found there, and it includes an article about the formation of a steering committee to explore a Wisconsin district of LCMC.

·         By the way, LCMC has hired two new employees.  Cathy Nichol joined LCMC as its Administrative Assistant.  She will help the organization keep up with the many congregational additions and changes, and will help with the financial requirements of the LCMC association.  Kristy Thomas is the new Communications/Public Relations Specialist with LCMC.  She will update and maintain the website, increase LCMC’s presence on social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc.), and take photos and blog live at LCMC’s annual events.
