Acquisition of Building Back on Target

A lower than expected appraisal threatened the loan agreement FLMC has with its bank, but a guarantee – which will only need to be used if the congregation were to default on the loan at some future time – means plans can continue to purchase the building, its contents and its corner lot.  Paperwork delays kept the closing from taking place this week.  The sale will likely be consummated next week.

Special Congregational Meeting Set for Sunday, October 10

A reminder that congregation president LaMoine Parkhurst has called a Special Congregational Meeting for Sunday, October 10, after worship and our food and fellowship at The Lutheran Church of St. Matthew.  The purpose of the meeting will be to consider calling a pastor.  The meeting is expected to begin at approximately 6:30 p.m.

LCMC Annual Gathering Held in Golden Valley October 3-6

Bob and Elaine Moore and LaMoine and Jan Parkhurst attended Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ Annual Gathering in Golden Valley, Minnesota on Tuesday. Here’s there report.

We arrived at 8:30 a.m. as the session opened with singing and a bible study by Rev. Christine Rasmussen ofDes MoinesIA. Our Keynote Speaker for the morning was Pastor Johann Hinderlie who is the Executive Director of Mount Carmel Ministries. During his first session he portrayed Martin Luther in dress and speech. As he spoke in the words of Martin Luther, you could see similarities in the reforming of the church today. We wish all of you could have experienced this awesome presentation.  (Editor’s note:  Actually you can.  Go to www.lcmc.net, and click on the video-on-demand for Tuesday morning!)   His bible study on John1:17 was also inspirational.

After lunch they celebrated anniversaries of Pastors’ ordinations and also milestone anniversaries of churches. Although many churches are new to the LCMC, they have many years of faithfulness to Jesus Christ. After that, they asked everyone who became a member of LCMC in the past year to stand. It was emotional to see over half the people in attendance standing. They related that on Monday afternoon they introduced the Pastors who have been certified by the LCMC in the past year and there were so many that the LCMC Board of Directors had tears in their eyes. God is good!

All four of us attended different break-out sessions of our choosing during the afternoon. While at the gathering, we saw and visited with some of the pastors who have served us these past months. LaMoine printed and distributed about 150 requests for mission support for Faith Lutheran Mission Church to people in attendance. It was a wonderful day and we encourage others to take advantage of these opportunities as they arise.

By the way, the LCMC’s 3rd Quarter Newsletter is attached.

Rev. Tom Herro for Good News Jail Ministry to Preach October 10

Thanks to Bob Moore, who led worship and delivered a message on faith last Sunday.  This Sunday, we welcome Rev. Tom Herro, the chaplain for Good News Jail Ministries to deliver the message.  Good News Jail Ministry is one of the two mission support projects for Faith Lutheran Mission Church during the month of October, the other being Lutheran World Relief.  Join us Sunday at 5 p.m. for what promises to be an inspirational message.  On October 17, worship will be led by Rev. Tim Duesenberg of Onalaska.

Looking for An Excuse to Be Outside Saturday?

Saturday, October 9 promises to be one of those beautiful October days that makes you feel like you’re getting away with something.  Join your Faith friends by doing the final clean-up of the year of our “Adopt-a-Highway” highway.  Gather at 10 a.m. at the Corner Store south of Eau Claire at the intersection of State Highway 93 and County Trunk II.  Our adopted road is the two miles of II west of the Corner Store.  Council member Jack Daniel is coordinating the effort.  Garbage bags and yellow vests will be supplied.  Bring your own extension garbage picker-upper, if you have one.  Or, if you’re counting this as your day’s exercise, just bend over and pick things up.  See you there!

Can You Help with Rides?

The Member Care and Services Committee is seeking members of the congregation who would be interested in becoming volunteers for providing rides to church for those without transportation, as well as rides to medical appointments, etc. and visiting members in their homes.  The Committee would like to make a list of the volunteers so we may better care for others in our church family.  Contact Katie Evans to learn more, or to sign up!

Statements Are In

Third quarter giving statements are complete, and can be picked up at the church on Sunday.  Those not picked up will be mailed.

October Choir Schedule is Set

The Faith Lutheran Mission Church Choir will rehearse with director Bob LaMont on Wednesday, October 13 and Thursday, October 28 at 7 p.m, and will sing at the 5 p.m. services October 17 and October 31.
